Augusta, Ga. -- The best is defined as...the highest quality in a given activity. And, Pat Van Hooser not only gives...she gives her best to these students.

These girls are a part of a group called "Smart Girls." And, every month, they'll read a book and come back to discuss it.

But, on this day, the monthly book club meeting was a little different...

Kimberely Scott, "We have what we call "Giving Your Best" partners, and we honor someone once a month for the outstanding work they do in the community. And, your girls probably don't know this, but you have been nominated, and you actually won as our Giving Your Best Award."

Kimberely Scott, "For giving your best to your fellow man, and to the students here, for your contribution and your compassion to others, and your commitment to the community."

Pat Van Hooser, "Thank you so, so much!"

Giving Your Best winners are nominated by people who feel that an individual is really giving to the community.

Kimberely Scott, "...The person who nominated you is Doris Caullier."

Van Hooser, "See now, you're gonna make me cry."

Doris passed away just months after nominating Pat, and remembering their friendship stirs up emotions.

Van Hooser, "Thank you so much...Doris was one of the most wonderful people that I know, she had commitment, caring, wonderful children. I really loved her, and I miss her...so to have this and to have it her name, means more to me than you'll ever know, and I love these girls, and they make this possible, thank you."
