Jeff Annis
Jeff Annis is the forth son of Mr. Lawrence V. and Betty “BJ” Annis. Jeff’s
parents started Annis Pest Control in 1954. Larry Annis held Georgia License
number 3. Jeff Annis joined the business in 1976, while attending college, as a
pest control technician. The family operated Annis Pest Control until 1983 when
it was sold. Jeff Annis worked for the new owners until the end of 1985.
From an early age, Jeff appeared to follow in his parents’ footsteps. First,
adopting a love for sailing, sailboat racing, and all forms of water sports at
Clarks Hill Lake, where the family had a lake house. Frequently, Jeff crewed on
the family sailboat with his mother and father. From an early age, Jeff
distinguished himself as a very accomplished competitive sailboat racer. At the
Augusta Sailing Club Jeff served as commodore following his father who was
commodore twice. To this day, Jeff Annis is well known as a worthy competitor,
champion sailor, and well recognized for his sportsmanship.
Betty “BJ” Annis served as an elected Trustee on the Richmond County Board of
Education from January of 1973 until 1994. In 1994 Jeff Annis ran for the seat
to succeed his mother and won election to a four year term.
Advanced Services began operation in the spring of 1986. The founder of
Advanced Services was lifelong Augustan and former Annis Pest Control employee
Frank Damiano. In September 1986 Jeff Annis joined Frank as a full time
associate. In 1987, Jeff Annis purchased half of the company and became
co-owner. By the end of 1988 Advanced had five full time associates and a small
office in National Hills Office Park. Advanced Services opened a separate
branch office in Aiken, SC in January of 1995, with Pat VanHooser as the general
manager.
In April 1998 Frank Damiano sold his remaining stock to Jeff Annis and he
left the company.
In June 2003, Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin appointed Jeff Annis to
a three year term on the Georgia Structural Pest Control Commission. The GSPCC
was created by the Georgia Legislature in 1955. Of interest is the fact that
Jeff Annis is the only person appointed to the GSPCC to succeed his father on
the Commission. Larry Annis served from 1960 to 1963. Larry Annis also served
the Georgia Pest Control Association as president in 1957 and 1970, and Jeff
Annis served as president in 1987. At the age of thirty one, Jeff Annis was the
youngest president in the history of the GPCA.
